    Results of the joint state-private sector committee meeting on regional economic solutions

    Prime Minister emphasized the integration of economy, tourism and services, and integrated agriculture for the Lower Northern Provincial Cluster I as part of the preparation for ASEAN Community.
     
    January 20, 2013, at 1730hrs, at Conference Room, ICIT Building, Uttaradit Rajabhat University, Uttaradit, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra presided over 1st/2013 joint state-private sector committee meeting on regional economic solutions with concerned authorities. Gist as follows:
    At the start of the meeting, PM Yingluck gave a remark about the integration of economy, tourism, and agriculture. According to PM Yingluck, this year the Government will prioritize the integration and structural connection of ‘provincial clusters’. Government will work together with the private sector for the progress in economic development on the basis of the country’s strategies. As for the Lower Northern Provincial Cluster I, for example, integration of tourism particularly for the two world heritage sites, Sisatchanalai National Park in Sukhothai, and Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park in Kamphaeng Phet, should be thought of.
    The Lower Northern Provincial Cluster I is advantageous in having labors with high level skills, aside from tourism and services (spa), cultural food, traditional plays, as well as, handicrafts. An integration of those traits would enable development of provinces and the provincial cluster in the same direction based on strategies of the provinces and the provincial clusters.
    PM Yingluck emphasized that purpose of the meeting today was to discuss about the development particularly on the issues of economic growth, infrastructure development, and transportation linkages to accommodate more investment from the private sector. The Government is ready to facilitate both SMEs and larger-scaled investment. As for ASEAN level, the Government emphasizes on SMEs, and low cost airlines to better connect domestic and regional routes.
