His Majesty the King designated His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn as his representative at the Coronation Day ceremony in Amarin Winitchai Throne Hall yesterday.

The Crown Prince, accompanied by HRH Princess Srirasm, arrived at the Throne Hall at 10.30am to preside over Buddhist and Brahmin ceremonies to commemorate the 63rd anniversary of Coronation Day.

The Royal Household Bureau on Saturday said Their Majesties the King and Queen would preside over the ceremony.

Subjects flocked to Siriraj Hospital, where His Majesty the King is recovering, early in the morning to get a glimpse of the King as he left.

However, the Bureau later said His Majesty's royal physicians had asked him to suspend royal activities for the time being due to his health. Her Majesty the Queen, who has been hospitalised since July, also did not attend the ceremony. The Bureau's 65th announcement said an X-ray revealed an inflammation in His Majesty's lungs, found on April 28, has eased. His Majesty is able to sleep but cannot yet take much food and is still tired.

In the evening, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra hosted the Samosorn Sannibat state reception to mark Coronation Day at Government House.

The reception was attended by senior officials and foreign diplomats.
